Ghent Volunteer Fire Company #1, Inc.
***WELCOME***
We are glad that you took the
time to visit our site and learn more about us. We have provided
you with all the information you need to know about our fire company
and the things we do for our community. The Ghent Fire Company
is located in the center of the Town of Ghent, a small agricultural
community located in Columbia County in upstate New York. Serving
the Town since 1923, the Ghent Fire company has worked to protect
the community from potentially destructive fires. Consisting of
approximatly 40 members, the Ghent Fire Company is strictly volunteer,
with members starting at age 16. The Company Currently owns five
pieces of apparatus, one being an out of service 1928 LaFrance
Pumper, which is still in working condition. The company also
owns a brush truck, 2 pumpers and a 3,500 gallon tanker, which
not only proves to be an asset to this community, but those surrounding
ghent when they are in need of water. This organization is not
an ems company, but recieves ambulatory services from the Chatham,
Philmont, Greenport and Valatie Rescue Squads. Ghent mostly handles
fire-related calls as well as automobile accidents with entrapment
or personal injury. The Ghent Fire Company is in Battalion 4 and
occasionally recieves mutual aid from surrounding fire districts,
which include the West Ghent, Chatham, Austerlitz, Kinderhook,
Stuyvesant Falls, Philmont, and Mellenville fire companies.
